Deep Roots 2014

Deep Roots is about the search for personal history by tracing back through the story of the Boyds.

Part of Homecoming Scotland 2014, this event allows you to join the journey and discover more about the history of this fascinating Scottish family.

The Boyds are a famous Scottish family with deep roots linked to key moments in Scottish history. The clan's ancestral home is Dean Castle, having been gifted the lands during 1316.

Set in the magnificent grounds of the castle in Kilmarnock, Deep Roots draws together the various strands of the Boyds' history through the ages and uses the device of a young Boyd searching for his 'deep roots' to look at ways of telling his own contemporary story. Through this journey visitors can develop a strong insight into their own history.
